Chinese Kaen
中華料理 嘉宴 大森町店
Chinese Kaen in Omori-nishi, Ota Ward, serves rich black vinegar sweet-and-sour pork, winged pan-fried gyoza, and late-running set meals suitable for quick dinners or evening drinks.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Located on the 1nd floor of the Toyoda Building in Omori-nishi, Ota Ward, Chinese Kaen serves satisfying Chinese fare anchored by its sweet-and-sour pork prepared with deep black vinegar. The house specialty, Kaen Sweet and Sour Pork, pairs thick-cut chashu pork with crisp Chinese yam, coating them in a robust sauce whose sweet, acidic tang pairs exceptionally well with steamed rice. A set meal version is also available, served alongside soup, pickles, and dessert for an accessible everyday option.
Alongside the pork, the restaurant is known for its winged pan-fried gyoza, wrapped with a crisp outer skirt that seals in a juicy meat filling. They work equally well as an additional side to a set meal or as an opener with a cold draft beer. The broader menu includes varied fried and stir-fried options, such as deep-fried eggplant seasoned with salt and pepper that stays tender inside, as well as a piquant chicken stir-fry tossed with chili peppers.
Open daily from 11:00 to 23:30, the shop is a reliable neighborhood resource when dinnertime runs late. The set meal selection features hearty portions of vegetables and meat, with choices including twice-cooked pork, liver and garlic chives, and wood ear mushroom scrambled with pork and egg. Noodle offerings range from hot-and-sour soup noodles to mixed seafood and vegetable starchy sauce yakisoba, alongside evening drinking sets offering 1 beverage and 2 appetizers. Whether dropping by alone after work or gathering over Shaoxing wine and shochu highballs, it delivers casual, comforting neighborhood Chinese fare.
